Meatball Shoppe Mediterainian Smash

The Meatball Shoppe, from the owners of Isabella’s Bella Cucina Catering, recently opened on the corner of Goldenrod and Lake Underhill. If you go in expecting your momma’s meatballs you’ll come away quite shocked. Yes, they have the standard Italian meatball but there is so much more to their balls.

We stopped in during their first week of operation to give them a try. We went semi classic with Jeffy’s Sausage balls with roasted tomato sauce and the Spicy Pork balls with creamy provolone sauce, as recommended to us by the lady taking our order. Both were tasty and very filling. The meatballs are large but not huge but because of the density they are more filling than you would imagine. The sauces were both well prepared and the meal was served quickly. They were good enough for us to go back up to the counter to get a to-go order.

My second visit was for a blogger meetup. This is when I got to sample a number of their offerings and I have to say, there wasn’t much that I could complain about. I decided to go outside the normal meatball “box” and get their version of a Reuben. They refer to their sandwiches as a smash because they smash the meatball inside of a delicious facacia roll. You don’t really miss the rye bread either with the addition of caraway seeds to the standard thousand island dressing. My only complaint was the lack of sauerkraut in the sandwich, and that is something a lot of people don’t like anyway. I also got the chance to sample their vegetarian and chicken Marsala meatballs, both of which were outstanding. You really did not miss the meat in their meatless option. Last but definitely not least was the polenta. The creamy mix of polenta with the under notes of Italian herbs is delicious. I have ordered it every time I have gone back since.

Make sure to say hi to Isabella and and Jeff while you are in the shop, you wont be disappointed.  They are a classic Italian couple and would love to share with you their love for food and for each other, as well as their family story.
