Being a golf fan, I have wanted to slip away and grab a bite to eat at Nona Blue for a while now but my schedule just didn’t allow it. I finally got the chance to check out the restaurant, partially owned by PGA Tour golfer and Lake Nona resident Graeme McDowell.
The décor is similar to what you would find at the 19th hole at any of your nicer golf courses, rich wood throughout the restaurant with golf memorabilia lining the walls and shelves. It may be a little dark for some but I found it to have a nice ambiance. We started with an order of Deviled Eggs off of the appetizer menu. There were 8 on a plate, which may have been a bit much for two people but they were very good.
For my entrée, I ordered the namesake Nona Blue Burger, medium. I point out the fact that I ordered it medium because it was done well past the warm pink center that I was looking for. Even though it was overdone, the burger was very flavorful and true melted blue cheese added the kick that you expect. The fries were done to almost a perfect crisp but they were definitely of the frozen variety.
My wife had the Black Angus Cheddar Beef. The sandwich was a good portion also served with the same fries mentioned above. You could taste each of the elements separately but the horsey sauce was liking that horseradish kick that you are really looking for. The au jus was beefy with just the right touch of salt.
Overall the dining experience was pleasant and the food was good. You can probably find a better bang for your buck but for them its all about location and the experience.
