Character Dining Without the Fuss
May 7, 2016

Who knew that there was Disney character dining at a hotel not owned by Disney? Ok, maybe some of you did but I sure didn’t realize it.

My family and I were invited to dine at the Lakeview Restaurant inside of the Wyndham Lake Buena Vista. They offer a character buffet three days a week – Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays – with two of Disney’s Fab Five. The day we dined we had the pleasure of having Goofy and Pluto join us.

The buffet offers a wide selection of pastries, fresh fruit and hot breakfast items as well as a made to order omelet station and fresh Mickey waffles. The omelet I had was delicious and made with real eggs, unlike a number of other buffets in the area. The Mickey waffle was more the twice the size of the standard waffle offered at most of the Disney dining experiences. In fact, it was almost as large as my three-year-old son’s head.

The staff was more than accommodating as I watched buffet workers walk back and forth between the kitchen to check for food allergy issues as well as vegetarian questions. Our server, Eddie, kept our drinks full and was even attentive to my son, who can be a bit demanding at times.

The fruits I had were all fresh cut and not from a can and the hot buffet items I did have were all cooked well and flavorful. Most of the selections were similar to what you would get at the other buffet style character dining experience but they were switching out dishes throughout the meal so it was constantly changing. I’m not sure whether that was by design or on purpose but it made for a different experience each trip to the buffet.

As far as the characters were concerned, they were more than willing to stick around for a few extra pictures and made sure my son got all the attention he wanted. At one point, Pluto was chasing my son under the table. I really appreciated the extra effort that was put in by the characters that is sometimes lacking at some of the other character experiences.
